World of Zekira RPG - Mutations

Description

The World of Zekira has a great many weird things available for its population's genetics.

This is a smattering - a very SMALL smattering at that - of some of the ways that mutations can affect a character's body or appearance.

WOZ has a "three tier" setup for all mutations, powers, and disadvantages.
Minor level usually involves things which can only affect the person using it - so, a coat of short fur, small horns, a single strange small feature like an added finger or pointed (not long) ears.
Major level shows a distinct change that other people will take note of immediately - claws that can do damage, a tail about the same length as their legs, short wings or slightly weird facial features like animal ears or a muzzle.
Special level produces an immediate visible response in people seeing it, usually fear or disbelief because who the hell has that many arms? Added limbs and complete body overhaul.

Note well that though those two characters in the upper left say "no VISIBLE" physical mutations, that doesn't mean that either one of them doesn't HAVE them. Both in fact do! Roonah, the female, has hard nails (those are rare on Zekira) and a birthmark (which you'll never see, just like her ancestress') as well as carrying male facial hair genes. The green man beside her, Raashan, has incredibly good vision as well as being able to regenerate even up to almost death-level wounds. They run the full range of basic through colorful skin and hair.

The "Tech Elf" Package deal is a set of mutations and powers which appear frequently together - the long (that's Special) ears and lacking at least one finger/toe on each hand/foot are the physical changes. However their powers are almost always geared toward sensing or manipulating computer data, technology overall, electricity, or machinery.

The "Animal Tuned" characters have both animal-style body parts as well as powers geared toward affecting animals rather than people. Myriratha on the left of the pair shows a furry feline style face and ears, along with a medium tail; however her Tuned powers are toward avians and flighted creatures, because her other powers include flight as well. Burothi on the right can actually shapeshift into a deer form but she has a hard time controlling that power, in addition to her other powers.

Vaaldyn is showing a paired Major mutation, her arms and legs are both 'Modified' - and though they appear to be bird-like in form, she does not have any powerful Animal Tunings, her mutations are there because her ancestry has such powers and appearance.

Aeroch with his one incredibly long tail shows off what happens when you're a powerful mentalist, but don't display more than just ONE physical mutation. Everyone loves his tail, mostly because he also tends to wear those little loincloth pants when he's not at official functions...

Tylee has a group of inherited features (and is Aeroch's grand-daughter) - all of them are considered 'Major' mutations, but they create an overall impression that is nowhere near as 'weird' as any Special-level ones. She has a medium tail, a modified form of her grandfather's; her fingers and toes both have actual claws on them, they're not just long nails, plus she has her other grandfather's arm-spines (as well as his two-toned / textured hair, that's a specific Kshau 'plus'). She too is an incredibly powerful mentalist - that runs all over her family lines.

Zeenaa, the amazingly bright white and red man, shows a combination of Special and Minor level mutations. He has four arms (a Special) but also has shorter pointed ears and grows facial hair which is an oddity on Zekira. In addition to those things, he is virtually immune to electricity, and yes, his ears do to some extent indicate that he has a power with electrical and technological items.

Cedaza has 'Fully Functional' Special-level arm-wings - she does not have 'extra' limbs to become arms, so her hands are literally 10 feet across. In addition she has those massive Special-level horns! Her clothing? It's put on with magnets keeping them on her body. As many who have horns do, she is able to use a strong Psychometry ability on both inanimate objects, and sense some amount of history when in an area.

Dhaavrix shows a variety of Special and Major level mutations. In addition to having full flight-capable wings, she's got a medium tail, somewhat steed-like ears and velvety fur, and her fingers and toes are 'hoof like' with hard ends. Her powers are Tuned toward Steeds, but also oddly enough toward other shapeshifters (She is a gender-shifter, not able to lose or gain any limbs or change her appearance).

Duane there is a Triptych, a specially-created shapeshifter who can turn into the variety of animals which he's been spliced, as well as mashing them up into that massive, terrifying sabertooth-deer-woodpecker. Seen in his full Special-level glory, therefore, his furry skin, feathered tail, modified legs and hoof-feet, clawed fingers, flight wings... his whole head is absolutely inhuman but also bears all three animal traits (color, horns, fangs). As to why any breeder would create such a person... *because they CAN*.

Charade Kstet is the current reigning champion of 'still looking Human enough that he can stand behind a counter and not be stared at' until he walks away... His father is also a taur, though a bit more mink-bear like than his overtly tiger-like one. The stripes are because of his mother, no doubt. He's *naturally immortal*, as well as being able to move his whole mind from one body to another he can just *make* a new one. Oh and he sort of controls animals too. He is an explorer.

Tsyan Kstet is one of Charade's relatives, obviously - that cat-body is very much a trademark of the Kstet line. However, her All Special tuned group of mutations comes with more or less no animal-type powers save that she can alter herself more into one or another for the occasion. Environmentally and psionically attentive, she can suit the mood of whoever's around, as well as if it's snowing or too hot gaining or losing fur or parts.

Chaashii Vahtiir has some unusual combinations in his appearance, because most Zekiran 'multi arm' genes rarely show up when the legs go missing like that. He has a strong ability to negate psionic use as well as control other people's powers, and the fact is you won't remember him unless he wants you to. And no he doesn't wear clothing. Pfff. Who needs that.

Nocturne and Jhigo are both what you could call 'figure fluid' - they are shapeshifters and rarely stop working their form into something new. While Nocturne seems to like hanging out in an 8-limbed slinky 'scare you out of your mind' form, Jhigo can be as minimal as 'human' even losing the ears and spare feather fluff, and that's his 'final form' with 6 limbs, a big tail, beaked long-eared head, and more dredlocks than you could shake a stick at. Yes, they're both immortal. At this level of physical mutation, their powers are all entirely off the chart as well.

It's a pretty safe bet that even though the first two on the page are incredibly powerful in their own right and you couldn't possibly tell from looking, by the time you get down to Nocturne and Jhigo... you get what you pay for. They aren't trying to hide anything, at that point.

Anyway. That's some mutations for ya. This is for the World of Zekira RPG "Character Creation" book. All artwork is (c) Lethe / Droppin the Fork, and was done somewhere between now and 25 years ago depending on the character...

How annoying it must be to have no visible mutations in this world :0 I'd be like "I want some cat ears and extra arms too" and my friend be like "but you're essentially invulnerable and shit" but I'd be like "but cat ears tho" xD
